Photo of Aster Jindai (Aster)
Aster tataricus Jindai a compact tartarian aster cultivar typically growing 3-4' tall. Species plants may reach 6-7' tall. Distinctive paddle-shaped, almost tobacco-like basal leaves are up to 18" long and 5" wide, but higher up stem leaves are significantly smaller. Dense and abundant, flat-topped clusters (corymbs) of 1 inch diameter asters with purple rays and yellow centers appear in autumn on rigid stems. This is a late bloomer which usually blooms well to first frost. Asteraceae
