Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes Ruby - Kohlrabi vegetable – chou-rave - It is a cool weather vegetable that produces fat, rounded, turnip-like enlargements of the stem just above the soil surface. Kohlrabi is best picked when it reaches 2-3" across. Leafy tops (taste reminiscent of turnip greens) may also be harvested. Plants will typically grow to 12" tall and as wide. Kohlrabi may be eaten raw or cooked. Family: Brassicaceae
