Like all endives, it is a cultivated form of wild chicory, and a member of the Asteraceae family. Many years of breeding have resulted in a remarkable variety of shapes and colors. Radicchio is usually a bit more bitter than Belgian endives and can be eaten as a salad or as a leafy vegetable. Family: Asteraceae
