Photo of Lagenaria Dipper (Long Handled Dipper Gourd)
Lagenaria siceraria Dipper The fruit is the attraction of this plant and after flowering, the squash-like fruits develop on vines. The distinctive fruits have very long, thin necks, that are sometimes curved, and small, bulbous bases. When fully mature, they develop hard, wooden rinds that are impervious to water. When they dry, they are hollow inside except for the seeds. Dried gourds are sometimes coated with a preservative lacquer. Cucurbitaceae
