Photo of Magnolia Leonard Messel (Magnolia)
Magnolia loebneri Leonard Messel - It is a compact cultivar with a multi-stemmed habit and beautiful two-toned flowers at an early age. The strap-like petals are similar to star magnolia, white on the inside and purplish-pink on the outside. The green foliage emerges after the flowers in spring. The transition of color from bud to bloom is a beautiful study in color. The blossoms are fragrant and appear before the leaves in early to mid-spring. Excellent for use as a spectacular large shrub or small multi-trunk specimen tree. Deciduous. Slowly grows 10 to 15 ft. tall, 12 ft. wide as a shrub; larger in tree form. Family : Magnoliaceae
