Photo of Malus Forge (Apple tree)
Malus domestica Forge - An old traditional dual purpose apple from Sussex. (Sussex UK 1851) It is self-sterile and would require a pollinator to produce a crop. Dual purpose apple. Medium sized, conical to round-conical fruit. Orange-red flush with short broken crimson stripes over a pale green background turning pale yellow. White flesh, crisp and very juicy. Sharp, tannic flavour early in the season but mellows with keeping to become lightly aromatic. Early cooker which reduces to a soft lemon-coloured puree - makes a superb apple sauce. Also used as a cider apple. Good cropper Family: Rosaceae
