Photo of Malus Red Fortune aka Laxton's Fortune (Apple tree)
Malus domestica Red Fortune aka Laxton's Fortune - A sweet, juicy, aromatic eating apple that has excellent flavour. A dessert apple that can grow to 2.5-8m in height and width, depending on the rootstock. Pale pink flowers. Pick when ripe - around early September. If picked too early it is somewhat dull and woody. It needs to be eaten fresh so do not store beyond October. The dry, smooth green skin yellows on ripening with a crimson flush. This is a good cropper bearing heavy crops on alternate years. It has good scab resistance but can be a little prone to canker. Ultimate height 4-8 metres. Family: Rosaceae
