Photo of Pisum Sugar Snap (Snow Pea – vegetable - Pois mange-tout)
Pisum sativum Sugar Snap - Snow Pea – vegetable - Pois mange-tout - This pea also known as “mangetout” peas is a vining tall type about 6' or more, so it is best trellised. Its pale green leaves are compound with rounded leaflets arranged in pairs on the leaf stem. The leaves are tipped with branched, curled tendrils that curl around objects and help the fine pea stems climb. The white pea flowers are lightly fragrant. Pods are about 3" long, 1/2" across, and bear over a long picking period. Both the pod and the peas can be eaten. Sugar Snap is an exceptional variety that produces sweet, succulent pods that can be allowed to mature to produce peas. Good eaten fresh out of hand, or boiled, steamed or stir-fried. Fusarium resistant. Snap peas may grow to two metres (6.56 feet) or more, but more typically are about 1.3 metres (about four feet). Family : Fabaceae
