Photo of Pittosporum Irene Paterson (Pittosporum)
Pittosporum tenuifolium Irene Paterson - A slow-growing dwarf evergreen rounded shrub about 3ft high, with creamy new summer growth that matures into a soft marbled variegation in winter. Fragrant deep purple flowers are produced rather sparsely from late spring. It expands at a comfortable pace: the lack of chlorophyll means that it is slightly slower-growing than its greener relations. It can be trimmed or clipped at any time in summer and almost instantly produces a fresh crop of creamy growth, which smartens up even the most exhausted parts of the garden. Typically only grows to a maximum of one or two feet in height but there will be some exceptions. Height - to 1.2m (4ft) - Spread - to 60cm (24in). Family: Pittosporaceae
