Photo of Anemone Virescens (wood anemone)
Anemone nemorosa Virescens - A much admired woodland perennial. Foliage on this species is dissected into finger-like growths, only one leaf per petiole. The stem resides below the soil surface and is dark brown in colour. Flowers are normally daisy-like and just over 2 cms wide. This variety is very much different from the rest of the species - the petals are reduced to leaves, making a rosette of deep green foliage instead of a flower. These can often last for over one month. Family: Ranonculaceae
