Photo of Cynara Imperial Star (Globe Artichoke)
Cynara scolymus Imperial Star - Earliest green annual for summer harvests. Plants are compact, upright, and reach about fifty-seven inches at maturity. The flower heads are large (four to five inches in diameter), tight, spherical in shape, a waxy or glossy bright green color, with slight purple coloration near the bottom of the flowers. Unlike most common cultivars, 'Imperial Star' is thornless. A green artichoke specifically bred for annual production, Imperial Star will produce well-developed artichokes the first year from seed. Plants become 1 1/2-3' tall and have an open growth habit. Family : asteraceae
