Photo of Physocarpus Midnight aka Jonight (Ninebark)
Physocarpus opulifolius Midnight aka Jonight - It is possibly the darkest ninebark variety known to date, producing deciduous, shallowly lobed to almost serrated maple-like leaves of very dark burgundy red, almost black leaves. Such dramatic foliage looks best in contrast with yellow and rich green leaves around. In late spring appear numerous small corymbs of light red buds opening to almost white, melliferous flowers, soon followed by dark red fruit that lasts for several months. In autumn another attractive feature which gave this plant its name ninebark becomes visible: peeling bark on older stems. It looks especially attractive on a sunny winter day against a layer of fresh snow on the ground. Family : Rosaceae
