Sambucus racemosa Sutherland Gold This deciduous shrub grows to a height of up to 10’ tall, and as wide. The leaves are deeply cut, to the point that it has been described as looking like a gigantic fern. New spring leaves emerge late March golden with coppery highlights and sheen. They quickly mature to a rich golden yellow before turning lime green later in the summer. Clusters of fragrant cream-white, star-shaped flowers appear in June. Bloom gives rise to red fruits in the fall.Adoxaceae
